01
Initial Assessment
Every project begins with a thorough condition assessment conducted by our conservator. We examine the object under raking light, UV fluorescence, and normal illumination to identify water exposure, previous restorations, residue, structural instability, and surface losses. This examination defines the scope and guides all subsequent decisions.
02
Documentation
Technical condition mapping and photography — capturing every loss, crack, stain, and area of concern before any treatment begins. We produce written condition reports formatted to satisfy private client expectations, institutional loan requirements, and insurance carrier standards. Nothing is touched without a documented baseline.
03
Treatment Proposal
Based on the assessment, we prepare a written treatment proposal outlining the recommended procedures, materials, and rationale. For insurance-related projects, this includes line-item estimates aligned with carrier requirements. We do not proceed without client review and approval of the proposed scope.
04
Restoration
Treatment is carried out in our climate-controlled Georgetown studio using reversible, museum-grade materials. Whether consolidating flaking paint, mending a torn canvas, reducing stains on paper, or stabilizing fire damage — every intervention is minimal, reversible, and aimed at preserving originality. We photograph critical stages throughout.
05
Review & Completion Report
On completion, we provide a final treatment report documenting all procedures performed, materials used, and current condition. Comparative before-and-after photography is included. This report serves as a permanent conservation record and supports future insurance, sale, or loan transactions.
06
Return & Long-Term Care
Objects are returned with archival packing and handling instructions. We provide written recommendations for storage, display environment, humidity, light levels, and ongoing preventive care — giving you the tools to protect your investment long after the project is complete.
